A 468,000 sq ft regional distribution centre for the Co-operative Group on Andover Business Park is due to open later this month. The opening of the building marks completion of the first phase of development of Goodman’s business park.
The distribution centre will handle 1.3m cases of fresh, frozen, chilled, and ambient products every week, to more than 400 stores across southern England.
The scheme has achieved a BREEAM rating of “Very Good” and is positioned at the north western corner of the former airfield site, with direct links via the A303 to London and the South West.
The development was forward funded by Legal & General and is let to the Co-op on a 20 year term.
Construction commenced in May 2010 following a fiercely contested planning battle over the future of the Andover Airfield site. Planning permission was granted on 26 August 2009 for an 863,000 sq ft regional distribution centre (RDC) as part of a comprehensive redevelopment of the Andover airfield site. This was amended to incorporate the 468,000 Co-op building plus a range of smaller developments.
Andover Airfield is a 46 hectare site located immediately adjacent to the A303(T) on the western edge of Andover.
